Success Stories

“Here are some photos of our new computers from CFSBC being used by our grade two students. In the photos they are typing their own stories using the program I've been designing and described on our application form. The CFS programme has been very beneficial to our school”.

As a small independent school where resources are scare and what is there is put directly to the students, Vedanta Academy can credit our start and continuation in the technologies and special education areas to Computer for Schools. Our students have benefited greatly with access to special programs for learning disabilities, graphic arts and video programs, the Internet and a many other visual aids to excite learning. The equipment we received from CFS allows us to put limited resources into the software needed. As well as a ‘green’ minded school, we feel great knowing items that might be thrown out can be reused and recycled.

When Vancouver (SD#39) Chief Maquinna Elementary School was first installing a computer lab in 1998, ample fund-raising money allowed us to spend $2000 per system. When we needed to replace those systems, we had no such luxuries. We turned to Computers for Schools, and were able to obtain a set of recent off-lease corporate systems that provided a much-needed upgrade at a price we could afford. Later, we were even able to replace the lab's CRT displays with flat-panel LCDs, again from CFS, making our lab much more energy efficient (and much cooler as well!)

At the Adult Education Centre, here in Kincolith, my class and I would like to thank you for the wonderful computers and service that we received from Computers for Schools. The computers arrived quickly, safely and were well wrapped and protected from the winter weather as they continued the last part of the journey here by pick-up truck.

Once we received the computers, the students took no time in setting up the room and getting into their lessons. We did not have an Internet Connection, but my adult students learned word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, photo editing, keyboarding and more. They were so enthralled that they worked through break time and right on through lunch on the computers for the three months we had left in the program. The computers function extremely well, and we were so delighted that the ones you sent even came with built-in speakers. The whole experience was fabulous!

To top it all off, many of the students were able to receive credit for Data Management 12, a valuable asset for those seeking a Adult Dogwood Diploma. The whole learning experience was so very esteem building and satisfying for all involved. The computers provided the students with a valuable learning experience that would otherwise not have been available.

Computers for Schools has been such a blessing for our school. We have been able to outfit our computer lab with top of the line refurbished computers which has saved us a tremendous amount of money. We have also been able to equip some of our special needs students with laptops to make their educational journey easier. Thank you to Mary-Em and everyone who works at CFS because your service is invaluable to small schools like ours.

Computers For Schools continues to be an important and frequently-utilized service for School District No. 73. Without this organization some of our technology initiatives would not have been possible. Thank-you CFS!
