The premier, non-profit provider of refurbished computers to BC schools and communities

Donation Standards

British Columbia Technology for Learning Society is a registered charity in good standing and is able to issue tax receipts for equipment donated to the program. Tax receipts are issued once per month. To meet the growing needs of BC’s schools, we are seeking corporate or government donations of
  • Pentium 4 level computer and laptops with hard drives intact
  • LCD monitors
  • Laser printers
  • Peripherals such as toner, scanners, speakers, projectors, Smart boards and servers.
It is important not to strip the equipment of vital operating components. We use RCMP's approved software to remove all information from the hard drive, and will then reload the operating system. For more information, please see our security policy

Pick-up service is available for large (20+ pieces) volume donations in the Lower Mainland. For donations of 40+ pieces, it would be appreciated if the equipment could be placed on skids for a smooth and timelier exit.

Our Refurbishment Centre is located in Burnaby. Please click here for more info.

Donations may be made any time Monday – Friday, excluding statutory holidays, between 8 am and 3:30 pm. Appointments are not necessary, but notification is appreciated.

Our donation standards are high to reflect the growing needs of BC schools - our primary client group. Please respect our re-use donation requirements.

Equipment of a lower level or individual computers can be directed to Free Geek where your computer will find a new home in the Lower Mainland.

Other re-use organizations can be found by contacting the Recycling Council of BC's hotline at (Lower Mainland) 604-732-9253 or 1-800-667-4321. Be sure to ask what a re-use organization does with the electronics they collect; where the computer will end up, if exporting is considered a viable option and their policy on hard drive wiping or destruction.

The Computers for Schools Pledge

Our pledge is to operate transparently in an ethical manner at all times
  • Never exporting electronic waste or partnering with an exporter

  • Never using prison labour or a partner who uses prison labour

  • Never lies to donors or client groups about where our equipment goes

  • Always able to provide a verifiable list of both the school and npo recipients and e-waste vendors
All reuse organizations are NOT created equal – many groups pose as reuse not-for-profits, which are a front to collect materials for illegal export!
